🚨 HUD Grant Opportunity: $364.5 Million for Lead Hazard Reduction

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released a major funding opportunity under NOFO FR-6900-N-13, announcing $364.5 million in competitive grantsĀ to help state, local, and tribal governments reduce lead-based paint hazards in older housing. This grant program is designed to protect vulnerable families—especially those with young children—from the long-term health risks of lead exposure.

šŸ” What’s the Purpose?

The Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) Grant Program provides funding to create healthier housing by identifying and mitigating lead-based paint hazards in pre-1978 privately owned housing. Homes built before lead paint was banned are often still harboring hidden risks, disproportionately affecting low-income communities and children under six.

This funding empowers jurisdictions to build comprehensive lead safety programs—from inspections and abatement to community outreach and long-term compliance.

šŸ” Who’s Eligible?

Grants are open to:

  • State governments

  • County, city, township, and special district governments

  • Federally recognized Native American tribal governments

Applicants must either operate an EPA-certified lead abatement programĀ or partner with one.
